Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org 1331 ADAMS STREET HOUSE FIRE Mobile Firefighters responded to what would turn into a 2nd alarm house fire located 1331 A Adams Street Monday morning, February 26, 2007. The call was received at approximately 8:42 a.m. and when firefighters arrived shortly after they reported heavy flames and smoke coming from the one-story, wood frame structure. Two other structures one on either side of the residence was in danger of catching fire as well, in fact the fire did spread into the attic of the vacant structure on the west side (1331 B Adams) of the residence. A 2nd alarm assignment was asked for to assist with fighting fire in both structures and to prevent the east side structure from becoming involved as well. Approximately 36 firefighters/firemedics responded to the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation due to the vast damage the fire did to the structure. The occupants told fire investigators that they had a fire on Sunday, February 25, in which they extinguished themselves. They advised investigators that an electrical short caught the sofa on fire and the occupants extinguished it and placed it outside the structure. No injuries were reported, the structure is totaled with a damage estimate of approximately $60 thousand. Engines 2, 3, 8, 11, 14, 12, trucks 4, 24, rescues 3, 14 and District 1 Chief Johnny Morris responded to the fire. ###
