Registration still open for MPRD’s spring sports programs
Mobile, Ala. — Spring seasons are just around the corner, but registration is still open for a variety of youth sports programs hosted by the Mobile Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD).
There is still space available for individual athletes and local teams interested in sports like girls’ volleyball, track and field, and NFL Flag football. Regardless of experience or skill level, these programs are a great way to introduce young Mobilians to new sports and get them active and engaged.
More information on these programs is available below. To register for any of these activities and others, visit mprd.recdesk.com.
For questions or additional information, contact MPRD Sports Coordinator Dorothy Williams at (251) 208-1630 or via email at dorothy.williams@cityofmobile.org.
NFL Flag Football
For the third year, MPRD is hosting a flag football league through NFL Flag — the league's official flag football program. One of the league’s teams won a regional tournament in New Orleans last fall and will be playing in the NFL Flag National Championship later this summer. NFL Flag football is open to children ages 7 to 18 and costs $45 per free agent or $450 per team. If your child is interested in learning more, NFL Flag will host a free clinic on Saturday, March 15, at Sage Park, beginning at 9 a.m.
Track and Field
Head Coach Jan Hickman and the MPRD Track and Field team have been very successful in recent years. In 2024, they won the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) State Track and Field Championships, bringing home 12 gold, 11 silver, and 14 bronze medals to Mobile. The track and field team practices at the Murphy High School track, and the program is open to children ages 4 to 14. The track season started on March 10, but Coach Hickman is still accepting new sign-ups. Registration costs for track and field are $75 for children ages 4 to 6 and $100 for ages 7 to 14.
Girls’ Volleyball
After several successful clinics for young Mobilians, MPRD is hosting its first league for girls’ volleyball. The league will play at the Sullivan Community Center and is open to children ages 4 to 14. Registration for individual players is $20 for the season, which will run through Saturday, April 19.
