Mobile, Ala. — As part of the S. McGregor Avenue Project, the intersection of McGregor Ave. and Dauphin Street will be temporarily closed from July 7 to July 11 for required utility work.
During this time, westbound Dauphin Street will be closed to through traffic starting at Ashley Drive, and eastbound Dauphin Street will be closed to through traffic at Wimbledon Drive. Local traffic will be able to access these areas, but there will be a hard closure preventing all motorists from using the intersection of McGregor Ave. and Dauphin Street while this utility work is being performed.
Messaging signs communicating the intersection closure have already been placed in the area to notify residents and commuters. The City of Mobile Community Affairs Department has also canvassed neighborhoods in the area to share information about the project and alternative routes with residents.
Beginning on July 7, McGregor Ave. will also be closed from Dauphin Street to Vickers Place through July 28, with a hard closure beginning just south of Dogwood Circle leading to the Dauphin Street intersection. Residents will be able to access Dogwood Circle and roads to the north, but this area will be closed to through traffic until this section of the project is completed on July 28.
Please see the attached maps highlighting the planned closure of Dauphin Street and McGregor Ave. and the closure of McGregor Ave. between Dauphin Street and Vickers Place.
About the S. McGregor Avenue Project:
The S. McGregor Avenue Project has been in the works for more than 15 years and will provide several necessary upgrades to what has grown into a significant thoroughfare. This $23 million project is being funded with a combination of federal, state and local dollars, and construction is being coordinated by the City of Mobile and the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT).
The project will include a complete rebuild of the roadway and the underground infrastructure along McGregor Ave. The roadway will be slightly widened, and a roundabout will be added at the intersection of Dauphin Street and McGregor Ave. In addition to roadwork, there will also be drainage, signal and lighting improvements and the addition of a sidewalk and a multi-use path.
