City of Mobile to Close Offices Tuesday Due to Winter Weather

Mobile, Ala. — In response to the anticipated severe winter weather, Mayor Sandy Stimpson has issued a Proclamation of Civil Emergency for the City of Mobile and its police jurisdiction. This emergency declaration will be in effect on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (CST). 

As a result, all City of Mobile offices and facilities will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, except for essential personnel.

A powerful winter weather system is expected to affect the Mobile area in the coming days, bringing potentially hazardous conditions, including snow and ice, to local roadways. Motorists are urged to stay informed and avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary. 

City leaders, including those from the Public Safety and Public Works departments, have been closely monitoring the situation. Equipment, including sand trucks and other resources, have been staged, and personnel are ready to respond to any dangerous conditions and obstructions on local roadways.

The City has also been in ongoing communication with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), which is preparing to address conditions on state-maintained highways and bridges. Up-to-date information from ALDOT is available at https://aldotnews.com/.
