MOBILE, AL – The Mobile City Council approved an ordinance to address the reapportionment of all seven Council districts, responding to the City of Mobile's recent annexation of new areas. These new district maps have been carefully crafted to ensure a more equitable distribution of the city's population, guaranteeing that each Councilmember represents a more balanced number of citizens.
In a groundbreaking appointment, Johnny Morris has been named the new Chief of the Mobile Fire and Rescue department, marking a historic milestone as the first Black MFRD Chief of Staff. Simultaneously, the Council has appointed Robert Lasky to the position of Executive Director of Public Safety for the City of Mobile. The Council expresses unwavering confidence in these appointments, recognizing their qualifications and commitment to the city's welfare.
The Council has taken measures to enhance the capabilities of our law enforcement agencies by approving more than $1.2 million for the acquisition of 26 Ford F-150 police package trucks. These vehicles will play a pivotal role in strengthening the law enforcement resources available to safeguard our city.
The Council has also acted proactively in the realm of disaster response and recovery by authorizing a three-year contract with Tetra Tech Inc., which will provide essential services to help the City access and manage funding streams available for expenses incurred during disaster response and recovery efforts.
