Councilman C.J. Small will hold an event this Saturday, August 18th, to honorarily dedicate ‘Rayfield Davis Street.’ The event will take place at 10AM at the intersection of Tennessee and Broad Streets.
On, March 7, 1948, Mr. Rayfield Davis was brutally murdered and left in a ditch on Tennessee Street after telling a co-worker that “blacks and whites would be equal soon.” Even after confessing to the killing, a Mobile Grand Jury declined to indict the perpetrator of this vicious act. In the hope of beginning to right this wrong and bring attention to this important history, the City of Mobile is honorarily renaming Tennessee Street to “Rayfield Davis Street.”
