Council Members Announce Major Capital Improvement Projects
Rehabilitation and Resurfacing of Pleasant Valley and Old Shell Roads
Mobile, AL – City Council Members Gina Gregory, Fred Richardson and Joel Daves announced today Capital Improvement Projects that will include extensive rehabilitation and resurfacing of parts of Old Shell and Pleasant Valley Roads. At tomorrow’s meeting, the full City Council will take up two contracts for these projects.
“This project is yet another major boost for the Village of Spring Hill and neighboring communities,” said Council President Gina Gregory. “It will make a world of difference to those who live in this area and throughout the entire city.”
The rehabilitation and resurfacing work will take place on Old Shell Road from White Lane to West I-65 Service Road and East I-65 Service Road to Florida Street. On Pleasant Valley Road, the work will go from Azalea Road to Montlimar Drive.
“These roads, that are such crucial arteries in our city, will now be safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians,” said Councilman Joel Daves. “We appreciate the Administration working with us to ensure this project moves forward.”
Each City Council Member identified major projects in their respective districts in collaboration with the Planning Department to be undertaken as part of the Capital Improvement Plan. The councilmembers allocate the funds for these projects.
“Without the penny tax and county pay-as-you-go funds, these Capital Improvement Projects would just not be possible,” said Councilman Fred Richardson. “As a result of these funds we are able to make these projects happen and make District 1 and Mobile a better place to be.”
If approved, the contracts would be awarded to Southern Earth Science, Inc. and John G. Walton Construction Company. Both contracts are sponsored by all three councilmembers as well as Mayor Stimpson.
