MOBILE, AL – The City Council unanimously approved a $10 million reimbursement agreement with Airbus for expenses associated with the expansion of its Brookley Aeroplex facilities. Mobile County will match the funds provided by the City, resulting in a total sum that includes $5,000,000 designated for training Mobile County residents in order to fill new job opportunities. Upon completion, Airbus will have invested over $2 billion at Brookley, generating more than 2,500 jobs and increasing Mobile's global recognition.
A change order regarding the contract for the design and engineering of Brookley by the Bay with Volkert, Inc. was authorized to increase the performance period by two years and the total sum of the contract to $2.6M. This change order includes a full park redesign, preconstruction services, and protection of the shoreline for Arlington Park and Brookley by the Bay.
A contract with Blue Salvage & Diving, LLC was approved which allows for the restoration of the historic stream channel of Three Mile Creek, east of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Avenue. The project aims to restore the natural flow of the historic channel and connect it to the City and County Blueway initiatives. This will improve water flow, enhance habitat, and create more passive recreation opportunities for the community.
Capital Improvement Plan funds were used to authorize a contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. for engineering services for traffic signal timing improvements for day-to-day operations along University Blvd. and Old Shell Rd. near the University of South Alabama campus.
