MOBILE, AL – On June 27, the Mobile City Council authorized the sale of Ladd-Peebles Stadium by the City of Mobile to the Board of School Commissioners of Mobile County. The sale is, however, contingent upon the Council's approval of any proposed modifications by the School Board to the intergovernmental agreement that was approved last week. Under the intergovernmental agreement, a maximum of $9 million will be dedicated to facility enhancements and upkeep over a span of five years, commencing in 2024. Additionally, the agreement permits community members to utilize the walking track/trail on the property during specified hours. Moreover, the City may continue to utilize the facility for hosting HBCU football games.

The Council also approved a contract with JPayne Organization, LLC for the relocation of Hank Aaron's childhood home to the Toulminville community. The Real Estate Asset Management Department of the City of Mobile, in partnership with the Mobile City Council, identified a suitable location for the Hank Aaron Home. The chosen spot is situated within the premises of the Mobile Police Department's 3rd Precinct, specifically at 2165 St. Stephens Road.

Among several city improvement contracts considered, a $1.1M contract with Bay Area Contracting, Inc. was authorized for City-wide facility parking lot resurfacing and spot repairs and a $3.2 million contract was presented for fountain and site amenity improvements at Bienville Square.
