Next Round of Major Infrastructure Projects Proposed
Mobile, AL – This morning, the City Council will take up the proposed 2017 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The plan consists of $21 million of infrastructure projects throughout the city.
“This is the culmination of months and months of work. Most of us have actually been working on it almost since we approved last year’s set of projects,” said Council President Gina Gregory. “The projects already completed, underway and on the way make Mobile a better place to live and our city more attractive to families and businesses looking for a place to call home.”
Each member of the City Council worked closely with the Planning and Engineering Departments to review the status of projects undertaken during the current fiscal year and identify the highest priority projects to take on during the coming year in each of our districts.
Over the coming weeks the City Council will preview the upcoming projects in each of their Districts which include:
• Road and sidewalk projects that make our streets safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
• Upgrading our city parks through much needed repairs and adding additional facilities to serve all Mobile’s citizens.
• Tackling the longstanding flooding and drainage issues throughout the city.
• Repairs to other important city facilities – including our public libraries, museums, and city wide facilities.
“This is all the result of the citizens of Mobile investing today and in the city’s future,” said Council Vice President Fred Richardson. “Working together Mobile has gotten momentum and we are going to keep it going.”
This will be the second year of projects funded through extension of the penny sales tax.
