City of Mobile Africatown USEPA Brownfields Assessment Grant

Community meeting for Africatown Brownfields Grant to be held Oct. 24

The City of Mobile and its grant partners will be hosting a community meeting on Oct. 24 regarding the ongoing EPA Brownfields Assessment in the Africatown community.

Over the last two years, the City of Mobile has worked with the community to assess the environmental conditions of several properties of interest in Africatown. On Tuesday, October 24, at 6 p.m., the City of Mobile and our consultant C.E.R.M. will host a community meeting to discuss the status of EPA Brownfields Assessment in Africatown and the results it has yielded so far.

A brownfield is a piece of property that could potentially be challenging to redevelop or put back into use due to the presence or perceived presence of a hazardous substance pollutant or contaminant. Through an EPA Brownfields Grant, these properties can be thoroughly examined to determine if any environmental remediation is necessary and help create a plan for redeveloping specific properties.

The event will be held at Robert Hope Community Center located at 850 Edwards St, Mobile, AL. If you cannot attend the meeting in person, the City of Mobile will be offering a virtual option via Zoom. You can find the call-in information below.
