A Message from Mayor Stimpson - September 3
Sep 3rd, 2020
Good evening,
It is 8:45 p.m. on September 3, 2020 and I am writing to give you an update from the City of Mobile.
Today, the Mobile County Health Department reports 12,438 COVID-19 cases, an increase of 59 cases. To review the detailed report, click here.
The State of the City and County Virtual event was held this afternoon and it was a great success. I enjoyed hearing from Commissioner Ludgood, who gave an update on behalf of the Mobile County Commission. Hats off to all of the progress being made throughout our community.
I missed getting to see everyone in person this year, but the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce did an excellent job conducting the event via Zoom.
In today's speech, I asked the question: In a year marked by a global pandemic and social unrest how do we measure the state of the city? Health statistics would show mixed results, but no statistics would reveal the unparalleled collaboration among government officials, healthcare providers, and private industry.
The true state of our city in the year 2020 should be measured by the teamwork, ingenuity, commitment, collaboration, perseverance, and hope inspired. The state of our city is very strong, and we should all be optimistic about the future.

As a side note, Monday is a holiday for most of us. However, we should not let our guards down. I encourage you to enjoy the day with your loved ones while wearing a face mask, social distancing, and washing your hands as often as possible. Let's all do our part to keep the Mobile County numbers moving in the right direction.
In closing tonight, I came across a message that I had written to my children 5 years ago. It read: "The experience of being mayor isn't easily described other than to say that it's exciting, ever changing and very challenging. I'm so grateful for those who joined my staff and the work they have done and are doing. And, I'm grateful for the prayers that continue to be lifted up for our city and me." This is still true today.
Sleep tight!
Good night,
Sandy Stimpson
