A Message from Mayor Stimpson - September 28

Sep 28th, 2020

Posted in: MayorCOVID-19

Good evening,

It is 9:00 p.m. on September 28, and I am writing to give you an update from the City of Mobile.

Today, the Mobile County Health Department reports 13,510 COVID-19 cases, an increase of 22 cases. To review the detailed report, click here.

As of this morning, the estimated debris pickup resulting from Hurricane Sally was 20% complete.

On Sunday, crews began in earnest to address trees that were leaning, hanging, and in danger of causing additional hazards. We also picked up debris from major corridors over the weekend.

For those of you who were not able to get your debris to the curb before we came through your neighborhood, please call 311 to let us know.

Don't forget that our City recycling center is still closed due to damage at the drop off center in Pensacola. We still expect the City recycling center to open in mid to late October. For those looking for an alternative location, you can drop off at the Mobile County Recycling Center. Find out more about what they will accept by clicking here.

Wednesday is the last day to fill out the US Census. Please make sure you are counted by going to 2020Census.gov

In one of my morning devotionals, I read about the importance of developing others. John Maxwell writes, "Whenever you do anything that you want to pass along to others, take someone with you." This brings the City's Youth Empowered for Success (YES) Initiative to mind. Through this program, we are able to provide young people with an opportunity to learn job skills and gain work experience while earning money. In the coming weeks, we will extend this program to a new group of City interns. These young people will have the opportunity to learn by working directly with our talented administrative team members. This is just one program aimed at developing our young people and securing a brighter future for our City.

Sleep tight!
