A Message from Mayor Stimpson - September 15
Sep 15th, 2020
Good evening,
It is 8:45 p.m. on September 15, and I am writing to give you an update from the City of Mobile.
The City of Mobile has been and is preparing for Hurricane Sally. Our strength is how we convene and communicate. This morning, I met with Public Safety Director Jim Barber, Police Chief Lawrence Battiste, Fire Chief Jeremy Lami and their teams at the Joint Operations Center. Chief Battiste led a response briefing which included our team from Public Works. As a collective these men and women execute round-the-clock surveillance of thousands of real time video feeds from across the City to ensure our safety from fallen trees, dangerous downed power lines and so much more.
We also met with the County Commission, Emergency Management and Sherriff Cochran. The Emergency Management Agency provided an update to our county team. We later provided an update to our local media. The press conference can be found on our City of Mobile Facebook page.
We began and ended the day by communicating with national media. I have received calls, emails and texts from across the country. They are all praying for our safety and are on standby to assist. This hurricane is slow moving and unpredictable. As a community we must be prepared. If you are in a flood prone area, seek shelter. If you are sheltering-at-home, discuss and practice your home safety plan. The City of Mobile's First Responders, the Emergency Management Agency and the State stand prepared to assist.
In the devotional, God Calling, today it reads, "The world sees strength in action. In My Kingdom it is known that strength lies in quiet. Be quiet, be still, and in the very stillness your strength will come and will be maintained. Have no fear of the future. Rest in Me. Joy in Me." Tonight, there is very little you can do about Hurricane Sally. So be quiet, be still, be prayerful. Tomorrow, literally thousands of emergency response personnel will start working diligently in the quest to protect you and restore order to our lives. I encourage you to remain strong and hopeful as we weather this storm together.
Be Safe. God Bless!
