A Message from Mayor Stimpson - September 11
Sep 11th, 2020
Good evening,
It is 8:30 p.m. on September 11, 2020 and I am writing to give you an update from the City of Mobile.
Today, the Mobile County Health Department reports 12,783 COVID-19 cases, an increase of 39 cases. To review the detailed report, click here.
Yesterday, I was invited to participate in a call along with other representatives from Congressional offices, state and local government, the travel and hospitality industries, longshore labor, and trade associations. The purpose of the call was to brief Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad F. Wolf about the economic impact of the "no-cruise order" upon the cruise industry.
During this call, the Fact-Finding Officers outlined recommendations for appropriate policy and regulatory responses. We were honored in that the mayor of Miami and I were the only two mayors on the call. Both of us had an opportunity to speak on behalf of the cruise industry reopening.
For those of us old enough to remember, today is a day that brings us back to exactly where we were when planes flew into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon 19 years ago. We will never forget the fear most of us felt in those hours and the heroes who ran towards the wreckage anyway.
Yesterday my team joined local law enforcement at the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, where we paid tribute to all first responders by remembering their sacrifice and courage on September 11, 2001. At the event, we also remembered and honored our local first responders, both police and fire rescue, who died in 2019.
In closing, I am grateful for the service of all first responders in the Mobile Police Department and Mobile Fire Rescue Department. Please join me in praying for their strength, courage, and safety as they put their lives on the line to protect the citizens of Mobile every day.
Sleep tight!
