A Message from Mayor Stimpson - July 13
Jul 13th, 2020
Good evening,
It is 9 p.m. on Monday, July 13 and I am writing to give you an update on the City of Mobile’s efforts regarding COVID-19.
Today, the Mobile County Health Department released an "expanded report" of data for the week ending July 12. Here are some key takeaways from the report:
- Mobile County recorded a total count of 4,907 laboratory confirmed COVID positive patients, an increase of 834 patients from the prior week total of 4,073, a growth rate of 20 percent.
- Mobile County recorded a total count of 140 deceased, an increase of 2 from the prior week total of 138.
- Mobile County hospitals averaged 129 COVID positive patients per day, an increase of 54 from the prior week average of 75, a growth rate of 75 percent.
- Area hospitals averaged a total of 34 COVID-positive ICU patients per day, an increase of 11 patients from the prior week average of 23, a growth rate of 48 percent.
- Area hospitals’ total ICU bed availability averaged 10.5 percent, down slightly from the prior week average of 12 percent
It is good to see so many citizens adopting the habit of wearing a mask in public settings. Hopefully this step, along with social distancing and good hygiene, will help us reduce COVID infections.
Remember that tomorrow is a runoff election in Alabama, with two important races for our region. The first is the runoff for the 1st Congressional District seat, and the second is for the United States Senate.
Citizenship carries both rights and responsibilities. Our ancestors struggled to give us the right to vote - please use it.
