Good evening,
It is 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, and I am writing to give you an update from the City of Mobile.
Today, the Mobile County Health Department reports 20,555 COVID-19 cases, an increase of 157 cases. To review MCHD's detailed report, click here.
Earlier this week, our team finished some of the preliminary work on a roundabout at the intersection of Canal Street that will be a key feature of the Broad Street Redevelopment Project. To help traffic of all sizes move safely through the area, the roundabout has a feature known as a "truck apron." This raised area can accommodate the wheels of large trucks, allowing them to more easily use the intersection.
Crews are also finishing up a lane on Broad Street, which will help make us a more pedestrian and cycling friendly city by establishing a space for cyclists separate from the roadway. This bike path will also connect to others on Canal Street, Water Street and eventually the Three Mile Creek Greenway.
Tomorrow, the GulfQuest Maritime Museum is welcoming back an authentic replica of Christopher Columbus's ship, "the Pinta." Some of my team members and I plan to visit on opening day, but the ship will remain docked outside of GulfQuest from 10 a.m. to 5p.m. through December 13. Tours are $6.50 for adults, $5.00 for youths and children under the age of 5 can come see the Pinta for free. Visitors will also receive a $2.00 discount to the GulfQuest Museum with any proof of purchase from a Pinta Tour.
Looking back in my journal, I noticed a few years ago, on this date, I brought my family's attention to a footnote from Jeremiah 27: 5-6. It reads: "God may use unlikely people or circumstances to correct you. Be ready to accept God's correction, even if it comes from unexpected sources." With this in mind, stay alert. God uses His Word, people and circumstances to speak to us.
