A Message from Mayor Stimpson - August 5
Aug 5th, 2020
Good evening,
It is 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5 and I am writing to give you an update from the City of Mobile.
As of tonight, Mobile County reported a total of 9,373 COVID positive individuals, an increase of 108 individuals from yesterday. According to the Mobile County Health Department, a total of 212 patients have died due to COVID-19. For a detailed look at today's data click here.
Together we can help to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by following these simple steps:
- Wear a mask when in public
- Keep your hands clean
- Avoid crowds and keep a safe distance from others
- Stay home if you are sick
While we are monitoring COVID-19, our staff is working to keep the momentum moving. I received a letter from Arthur Murray of Lavista Associates commending the work of our Build Mobile Team. In Mr. Murray's letter he states, "Mr. Mayor, I have done projects all over the southeast for over 40 years. Many municipalities talk about being "business friendly" and many talk about expediting development. Unfortunately, few follow through on those words. The City of Mobile performed at the highest level." I appreciate the dedication and excellent service our team provides. COVID-19 may have changed the format of how we implement service, but it didn't change the quality of our service. I could not be prouder of Frank Palombo, Margaret Pappas, Shayne Cumbie and our Build Mobile team. To read the full letter Click here.
The Build Mobile Team is now meeting with customers virtually. Virtual or remote pre-development meetings are being held to assist customers with planning projects for successful development and to assist in navigating through the permit process. Representatives from development related City departments such as Planning and Zoning, Inspections, Engineering, the Fire Bureau and Urban Forestry are present to evaluate the project to aid the developer in their project planning. To schedule a remote (video conference) meeting, please email Frank Palombo at frank.palombo@cityofmobile.org.
Tonight, I am especially grateful for our employees who serve our City. In spite of adversity and difficult circumstances due to COVID-19, they have accepted the challenge to adapt and rise to the occasion. My hope is that we remain resilient, encouraged and strong but not just strong-Mobile Strong!
