A Message from Mayor Stimpson - August 31

Aug 31st, 2020

Posted in: MayorCOVID-19

Good evening,

It is 8 p.m. on Monday, August 31st and I am writing to give you an update from the City of Mobile.

Today, the Mobile County Health Department reports 12,294 COVID-19 cases an increase of 53 cases. To review the detailed report, click here.

Pictures are emerging of the utter devastation experienced in SW Louisiana - infrastructure, homes and lives are destroyed.

The Mobile maritime industry is stepping up to help our neighbors in need.  The Alabama State Port Authority, APM Terminals Mobile, Maersk, and Wright Transportation are providing in-kind services to collect, pack and transport relief supplies to Lake Charles, LA.

The City of Mobile, The Mobile Bar Pilots, The Propeller Club of Mobile, The Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, the Alabama State Port Authority Employees Club, and the International Longshoremen Association are partnering to make this happen.  Organizers are coordinating with officials in Calcasieu Parish, LA to ensure distribution of supplies upon arrival.

Some items needed by those impacted include: bottled water, non-perishable food items (including baby food), personal hygiene, pet supplies, batteries, household cleaning supplies (no bleach products), basic first aid supplies and over the counter medicine, toilet paper and paper towels, mosquito repellent, soap and shampoo.

Please consider donating supplies to this relief effort.

As a reader and believer of John Maxwell's leadership principals, I thought I'd close tonight by quoting him. "When a leader demonstrates a commitment to the mission and goals of the organization, the resources always follow. Until a leader commits, a hesitancy lingers. But the moment that a leader commits, then God moves and a whole stream of events begins to flow. All manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings, persons, and material assistance - which no one could ever dream up - begin to occur. And it all starts to happen the moment a leader makes a firm commitment." This succinctly describes why the vision statement for the city of Mobile was and is important.  God has already done and is doing miraculous things in Mobile, and I'm hopeful He will continue to do so.

Goodnight,

Sandy Stimpson
