12:30 p.m. - Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units including Fire Boat 2 were dispatched at about 11:31 a.m. for a report of a marine vessel on fire near the Cochrane-Africatown Bridge in Mobile, Alabama, Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
Personnel arrived on scene to find an open barge containing crushed cars with smoke coming from a small section.
Tugboats moved the barge away from the group of barges that it was positioned in and moved it south of the bridge and are currently spraying water on it to cool or extinguish the fire.
At this point, if the fire does not appear to be extinguished, the barge will be moved where its contents can be offloaded to keep weight from accumulating in the barge.
