Chemical Emergency Actions

Shelter in Place:

  • Go inside if you are outdoors.
  • Protect yourself inside your house or other building.
  • Close all windows and doors. Tape cracks for extra protection.
  • Close all vents on cooling, heating, or ventilations systems.
  • Use the above systems for INTERNAL RECIRCULATION of air only.
  • Move to central interior area of building.
  • Stay inside until local radio or tv station informs you that the emergency is over.

Evacuation:

  • Immediately move to a location designated by public officials when so directed.
  • Gather what you and your family will need.
  • Take ONLY ESSENTIAL ITEMS especially medication.
  • DO NOT go to children's school. School Officials will take special care of your children.
  • Leave sign on door saying house has been evacuated.
  • You will be directed to a safe designated area.
  • Keep car windows and vents closed.

Protect Your Breathing:

  • Cover your mouth and nose with damp cloth.
  • Take frequent shallow breaths.
  • STAY CALM – DO NOT PANIC.
