The Mayor is the Chief Executive Officer responsible for the administration of city affairs. The Mayor appoints eight of the nine members of the Planning Commission, all members of the Industrial Development Board, the Airport Authority, the Housing Board, the City Attorney and several other boards.

The Mayor’s Office is responsible for ensuring effective, responsive leadership to meet public and administrative requirements in an efficient manner, enforcing all ordinances and laws of the City, recommending the City budget for Council review and adoption, establishing and directing overall goals, objectives, and functions of City programs, coordinating intergovernmental programs, and providing responses to citizen and media inquiries.

The Mayor is assisted in all of his duties by the Chief of Staff whose primary function is to coordinate the activities of the four (4) Executive Directors and other senior staff.

The Mayor of the City of Mobile must be a registered voter of a least 25 years of age and a resident of the City ninety (90) days prior to the election.
