Councilwoman Connie Hudson has been an active member of the Mobile community for almost 30 years with extensive public service experience. She is serving in her third term as the District 6 representative on the City Council. During her Council tenure, she has participated in major economic development initiatives which resulted in the Mobile area's site selection for the ThyssenKrupp Steel Plant and the Austal USA shipbuilding facility. She is a member of the Cruise Task Force and was involved in the recruitment of Carnival Cruise Lines to Mobile.
Councilwoman Hudson led the City initiative beginning in 2002 to build the City-owned Mobile Regional Senior Community Center within District 6. She currently serves as President of the all volunteer non-profit MRSCC Foundation which was incorporated to provide community input and resources for the new Senior Center. To date, the Foundation has raised well over $200,000 in public and private funds for the Center's furnishings and equipment. She championed other district improvements including a median beautification project for Grelot and Hillcrest Roads, intersection improvements, parks improvements and grant funding for sidewalks to be installed along Lloyd's Lane leading to Cranford Burns Middle School.
As a passionate education advocate in Mobile for many years, Councilwoman Hudson served in numerous volunteer positions including E. R. Dickson Elementary School PTA President, President of the Mobile County Council of PTA's, Board member of the Alabama PTA, Board member for the Mobile Area Education Foundation, and Chairwoman of Citizens for Better Education. She is an Honorary Life Member of the Alabama PTA and raised thousands of dollars through grant writing to supplement learning resources and arts education for the Mobile County Public School System.
Councilwoman Hudson's educational background includes a B. S. degree in Biological Sciences from Troy University. She received an A. S. degree from Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, Alabama, where she served as President of the Student Government Association and Captain of the Women's Basketball Team. She completed an Internship in Medical Technology at the Mobile Infirmary Medical Center where she served as a Staff Technologist, Hematology Specialist, MT (ASCP) SH, and Pathology Instructor for the Mobile Infirmary School of Radiation Therapy Technology. She is currently employed as the Technical Manager of the LifeSouth Community Blood Center in Alabamas Coastal District.
She has been married for 29 years to Dennis Hudson, a Senior Staff Engineer at BASF. The Hudsons have three children: Brian (24), an officer in the U.S. Navy currently stationed in Pensacola, Florida, where he is attending Flight School; and twin daughters, Julie and Dana (21), both currently completing their senior year at the University of Southern Mississippi.
