| Mobile is the oldest settlement and the second largest city in the state of Alabama. Our historic City Hall and Market Complex bears the distinction of being the oldest continuously used seat of municipal government in the nation. Mobile presently operates under a Mayor/Council form of government. Sam Jones was elected Mayor in 2005, drawing upon his years of experience as a Mobile County Commissioner. Council President Reggie Copeland's career of public service includes the distinction of having served on the Council since the City changed from a commission form of government in 1985.
